| Post competition hasn't worked |
|
Postal unions and Royal Mail bosses were jubilant today(7May) after a Government report into postal competition was published. The independent review concluded that Competition has produced no significant benefits for consumers and small businesses. In its first report summarising more than 40 submissions from the industry, the review group said competition had benefited large mail users, but posed a “substantial threat” to Royal Mail’s financial stability. It said this could put at risk the daily collection of post and its delivery and asked operators and users for ideas on how to maintain the universal service. “We have come to the conclusion, based on evidence submitted so far, that the status quo is not tenable,” it added. |
