Monday, 18 August 2008

Entrepreneurs are clocking up more than 50 hours every week, according to a survey into the work life-balance culture by Bank of Scotland.

The latest figure of 51.5 hours is an average increase of almost four hours per week compared to this time last year when the average was 47.2 hours.

It shows small business owners are working an average of 16.5 hours a week more than a person working a typical 35-hour week.

Overall Britain's 1.4m small businesses are collectively putting in a 31.2 million extra working weeks' each year.

For many small business owners, the burden is set to increase further with one in five (21%) expecting to work longer hours for the remainder of the year.

The survey also shows the increasing work burden is increasing stress levels.
