Company insolvencies soar
Corporate recovery specialists at law firm Hammonds in Manchester say that the credit crunch is having a significant impact on Corporate UK, with dramatic rises in the numbers of corporate failures in the first quarter of 2008

The latest insolvency statistics, issued today by the Government’s Insolvency Service, show that there were 60% more receiverships and administrations in the first quarter of 2008 than in the last quarter of 2007 and a 40% increase on the same period last year. The number of liquidations shows a similar although less dramatic trend.

Susan Kelly, a corporate recovery partner at Hammonds said: “The impact of the credit crunch and the general economic slowdown has really started to bite in the first quarter of 2008. The numbers reflect the fact that it is much harder to raise finance and that more and more businesses are suffering acute cash flow problems.

"Twelve months ago it was fairly easy to refinance a business that was suffering cash flow difficulties. That isn’t the case any more. In the current conditions businesses have to face up the reasons they are having cash flow issues and work with their financiers and advisers to address and manage their way out of those difficulties.”

Street Advertising Services

There are scores of ways of getting your business noticed cheaply and easily by making use of the city’s streets. Unfortunately, though, many of them such as flyposting or graffiti are downright illegal, whereas others (a nod goes out here to Manchester’s “Sabi Rock guy”) make you look like a nutter.
