Our guest speaker John Caudwell, was catapulted to business celebrity status earlier this year when he sold the Caudwell Group, which included international mobile phone dealer Phones4U, to a pair of private equity houses for £1.46 billion - the largest cash out in history of UK mergers and acquisitions.

However, as well as bagging a personal fortune, Caudwell has since the mid 1990s given much of his time and energy to raising funds for children's charities, with his main focus on the Caudwell Charity.

This organisation, founded in 2000, has pledged £50,000 a year to the NSPCC Full Stop Campaign, but its primary purpose is to make individual donations to sick, disabled and terminally ill children nationwide. Caudwell, a sports fanatic and adrenaline junkie, goes to great lengths in support of his chosen cause, including epic cycle rides. His next challenge will be to sail around the world. All proceeds raised from the charity auction were donated to the Caudwell Charity. Visit www.caudwellcharity.com
