Organising a conference requires more nerve and guild that most people think. So, what should you consider before sending out the invitations? James Graham reports Picture the scene: It's 5pm, and tomorrow you're hosting the region's event of the year, a massive business conference with star speakers. Headlining is Larry King, the legendary American broadcaster. You're just finishing for the day when a call comes through – it's King's agent. "We got a problem," he says. "Larry's not well, he can't travel. He won't be able to make the conference." For event organiser Mike Firth, this was very bad news. "I hope it's terminal," barked Firth, probably only half in jest. |
